So last night I get home and I'm working on the site you know trying to tweak things here and there and then I start to notice that for the first day of the month my bandwidth usage has already peak more than normal. And the amount of visitors on the site almost tripled for that time of day. So I go and start checking things out but the server is on such an overload that I can't do anything on it without getting an error. So I start to think OOHHH no the Chinese hackers are back. I kick it into over time trying to make sure every whole is patched and that all the virus protection and server security is working.
After all that I decided it must be traffic legit traffic and I would wait till tomorrow to check and see if the logs showed anymore strange activity. So now we are in today and I get up grab my laptop log on to check the site and look what I see a domain registration page HU? What the hell is this OMFG we were hacked was my first thought. So I get on the messenger and start to try to get a hold of Jeff. Of course I'm an hour ahead of him and had to get to work so I turned on my trusty yahoo messenger on my phone and headed out the door. Once at work waiting for Jeff to get my message I started to look into the webpage that was up there. Turns out that domain registration was up about a week ago and neither Jeff nor I knew it. Jeff was able to get a hold of the Domain Company and get it all straighten out. So now all across the internet servers around the world are re-pointing themselves to the myjokemail server. My home and work internet won't show the site but my Verizon internet air card is.
After clearing that all up I started to look more into the traffic we got yesterday. Turns out that it's all from someone posting on http://www.reddit.com/ a link to one of our videos. Which is cool since it gets MJM a lot more exposer and more members means more jokes and other funnies.
So anyways I think the site should be restored for everyone in about 48hrs at most.
Take Care
Mike
